Kendall Marshall NBA Comparisons

July 8, 2012

Please note that this comparison is based on what I think Kendall Marshall will become, not what he is now.

Rajon Rondo

They are both exceptional passers, a work in progress as shooters and make other players around them better.  However, Rondo is a way better rebounder, defender and the better athlete making him a significantly better player.  Kendall Marshall appears to be the better teammate and the more likable person.  This has something to do more with Rondo’s own issues.

Steve Nash

They are both exceptional passers and make other players around them better.  Both are also not good defenders. However, Nash is a significant better shooter.

Ricky Rubio

They are both exceptional passers, a work in progress as shooters and make other players around them better.  However, Rubio is the better rebounder and defender making him a significantly better player.

Jason Kidd

The comparison is based on Jason Kidd in his prime, not the current and older Kidd. They are both exceptional passers, decent but not great shooters and make other players around them better.  However, Kidd is a better rebounder and defender also making him a significantly better player.

Andre Miller

I’m using an Andre Miller comparison in his prime as I’ve seen other writers make this comparison.  They are both pass first point guards that know how to set an offense. Marshall is the better passer but Miller is the better scorer.  Marshall gets into the lane better and is able to set-up teammates.  In my opinion, Kendall Marshall in his prime will be better because of his passing and impact on other players.  His numbers might not necessarily support this but you have to understand basketball to be able to see it.

Mark Jackson

Mark Jackson is another player I see other writers compare Kendall Marshall to.  This is an intriguing comparison based on Mark Jackson’s career averages of 9.6 points and 8 assists during his 17-year career. I have to admit that though I have seen Mark Jackson play, I did not pay a lot of attention to his game as I do to current NBA players.  My best guess would be this would be a very solid comparison.
